Highlights from Seventh Annual NAMD Boot Camp

The seventh annual NAMD Boot Camp was held in Stateline, Nevada, on May 18, 2014. CHCS collaborated with NAMD on this one-day program that brought together participants from 35 states and territories to discuss opportunities and challenges facing new Medicaid directors and their senior staffs. Medicaid Cannot Be An Island: Creating Alignment with Other Purchasers

Presenters: Dianne Hasselman, Director of Value-Based Purchasing, CHCS,and Deidre Gifford, MD, Medicaid Director, Rhode Island

Medicaid cannot transform the health care system alone – it needs other external partners. D. Hasselman provided an overview of how other purchasers – public employee benefits agencies, insurance marketplaces, employers and Medicare – can be partners to Medicaid and engaged audience members in an interactive discussion on state efforts to bend the health care cost curve. Deidre Gifford, Rhode Island’s Medicaid Director, provided perspectives on multipayer opportunities pursued in Rhode Island.

Using Innovative Approaches to Impact Social Problems: Supportive Housing As a Solution
